'...I want to say what a help it was, immensely refreshing and illuminating. There was a concentrated focus on keeping the space clear for awareness to inform – whether this was in meditation, movement, conversation, study or just breathing in and out. For the stress reduction result alone it was invaluable but there was much more – and it was good to be a new student again.'
'Having been a student at Chisholme for some 20 years, I found taking part in a residential mindful retreat very helpful. Wonderful and sometimes quite un-expected support came from the shared experience of our group. In particular, the process of self-enquiry following meditation invited delicate discernment and I learned a lot from this daily exercise.
Further, working consciously with the body was so very helpful, in again and again returning me to an awareness of the present moment. In short, the course taught me much.
In particular, it gave a fresh perspective on meditation and reminded and encouraged me to make real space for ongoing spiritual practice.'
'For me personally this course has had lasting benefit: it has enabled me to identify and address my own longstanding habits of reactivity and self-blame and explore ways of changing them. The course offered me new and more effective means of responding to difficulty and challenge, less driven by inappropriate and unrealistic expectations, and more compassionate to myself and others.
This was achieved through a range of different activities and exercises, including sitting and walking meditation, group and pair discussions, role play, etc. and complemented by readings from a rich variety of texts drawn from different spiritual traditions, which illuminated and crystallised the insights I had gained in a remarkable way.'
'It is now almost seven months since I took part in the course and I am still aware of the lasting benefits it has given me, in enabling me to deal with challenges and stresses in a less anxious, more and ultimately more forgiving way.
Sara and Marijke, the two facilitators, were wonderful: sensitive and responsive and fully committed to the group as a whole and to each of the participants on their individual journeys. It was clear that a great deal of preparation and thought had gone into the course, in the exercises and group activities, and in the rich and varied choice of texts that accompanied it. I cannot recommend this course too highly.'
'I found the wisdom texts and contemplation to be wonderfully illuminating. They seemed to add a dimension to the course that I had not before appreciated. They connected me to the wider world and to different cultures and to the course of history –
very grateful for these, thank you...
I really enjoyed the different qualities that both facilitators brought and feel very fortunate to have been able to participate in this course.'
'I did enjoy the Mindfulness day… I found it beneficial and loved feeling connected to myself in a 'new' way. Walking in my own footsteps was empowering and moving. The sense of my cobwebs being gently sought out and brushed away was a healing.
It has continued.'
