Due to Covid regulations our program is arranged a little differently this year.
Proposed is a three week event:
– a one week of quarantine, in the spirit of private retreat,
– followed by a week for practical immersion in the life of Chisholme,
– a one week immersive Discovering Unity course.
It has the sole purpose of creating the conditions for self-knowledge in the light of the unity of being.
To this end our approach is experiential rather than academic, and aims to establish us in a vision and taste that can inform the rest of our lives.
The raw material of the course and its subject matter is us. The premise of unity – that all being is One – is the starting point and constant reference, and what will inform us in fact is our own inner reality. The design of the course and its content is intended to stimulate and nourish this process.
The course is intentionally group-based and this brings many advantages, because in reality we are mirrors to each other and no-one travels this path completely on their own.
The course is founded on four elements: study, meditation, work and devotional practices.
Daily Study and conversation sessions draw on the works of masters from different wisdom traditions, primarily Ibn ‘Arabi, Rumi, and Lao Tsu. Study material is also taken from more contemporary sources – for example Einstein and Adyashanti.
Regular meditation develops a contemplative condition in us and helps us cultivate awareness and presence, which are indispensable for real learning.
Work performed with awareness and a sense of service, gives time, space and context for the integration of what is discovered in study and meditation. Work is in the garden, estate, house and kitchen.
Devotional practices are essential for grounding, centring and opening the heart. These include ‘zikr’, or 're-memoration', a devotional practice using sound and movement.
Commitment: Please note that this course is full-time and requires wholehearted commitment. A detailed timetable is available on request.
To keep you and everyone else at Chisholme safe, we are asking you to quarantine for 7 days here, free of charge. Please consider this as in the spirit of a retreat or a time of preparation, in which you will be fully supported.
There'll be activities available in the garden and woodland and three meals a day will be provided.
However, as Covid regulations are changing constantly, a reduced quarantine period of three days, combined with testing might be possible by the end of May.
Social-distancing will be an essential requirement for this time. This is for the protection of those already living here and for yourself, as there will be others in quarantine with you.
After quarantine, there will be the opportunity to participate in the day to day life of Chisholme: join the morning meditation, help in the garden, the house or kitchen and take part in informal study and conversation. This will give you a good introduction to the School, and be helpful preparation for the course.
If you’re only able to stay for the actual course, that’s perfectly fine, as long as you’re happy to go through the quarantine period starting June 6.
Accommodation: After the quarantine period in single rooms the accommodation is shared, in double or triple rooms.
Three Weeks start date: 30 May
Two weeks start date: 6 June
End time and date: The course will finish after lunch (14.00) on Saturday, 19 June
