The original proposal for 43 turbines has now been reduced to 13. This reduction follows an objection from the Ministry of Defence, which raised concerns about the seismic impact of the nearest turbines on their 'listening' station located near Eskdalemuir.
Unfortunately, the remaining 13 turbines, each standing 200 metres tall, are proposed on land adjacent to the Chisholme Estate. Several of these would be visible from Chisholme House itself.
We have had a number of exchanges with the developer, Invenergy, raising concerns about visual impact, potential shadow flicker, night-time aviation lighting, and the harm caused to the setting of a Category B listed building. Invenergy has responded that these impacts are considered minor and that no further scoping or assessment is required.
This position is unusual. For a development of this nature, it is standard practice to provide a Heritage Impact Assessment for consideration by the Scottish Government. As Invenergy is unwilling to commission this, the directors have decided to fund one independently. We have now engaged an experienced heritage consultant who has successfully supported similar cases in the past.
While the majority of the consultancy fees have been generously pledged by Chisholme supporters, a small shortfall remains.
We have until 31 January 2026 to submit this assessment to the Scottish Government, after which the consultation period will close and a decision will be made.
We will continue to keep you informed as matters progress.
